Follow the government's dietary advice to get fat.

If you were to go onto the governments food advice guidelines web page, you would be able to view an easy on the eye food pyramid graphic like the one above…
A great visual guide that makes it very easy to follow and use and it would work great…
For an athlete…
Three quarters of the pyramid seems to be Carbohydrates…
With half of that potatoes, bread, rice, pasta and other starchy Carbohydrates…
And all the supermarket traffic light nutrition advice on their packaging relates to this…
High Carb, low fat…
Which in reality equals get fat…
The key is to make sure we don’t have an energy surplus as that means body fat creeps on as that’s what it turns into…
Granted of the foods on your plate carbohydrate would be the biggest quantity just…
Remember the guide: palm size of protein, fist size of veg, and to lose and shape up (which I’m sure if you are reading this is your goal) half a cupped handful of high energy carbs (mentioned above) and half a thumb size of healthy fat (oils, nuts, nut butters)…
If you can imagine a plate, it’s about 40% Carbs, 30% Protein and 30% Fat, that’s the ideal macros if you have heard people talk about that…
And of course less often and smaller amounts of the other stuff…
Sounds easy?…
It is in theory, but knowing what to do is easy, starting and sticking with it – that’s the hard bit…
But eating the way the government advised meant I was an out of shape Personal Trainer blaming it on Thyroid problems…
Changing the balance as per above meant I was back in control of being in good shape and not able to use the thyroid thing as an excuse!…
If you need some help I created a report that contains some easy to make and tweak for the whole family meal suggestions and how they fit into the lose and shape up system, just scroll back up and enter your email address on the top right hand side.
You can do this.

When did how many steps per day become a thing?

There is a new question people who spend a lot of stuck staring at a computer screen for long hours, or seeing the inside of a car or another form of transport for a while ask each other...

A question that seeks to overcome the problem and make people feel good that they are doing something to balance this out...

A question that ensures them they are doing something that although they have to earn a living will at least have a good effect on health...

A question linked usually to a gadget that motivates us to try and balance it all out, gives us a number, something we can compare back to our previous attempts...

The question being (thought you were never going to get there, Ed)...

"How many steps have you done today?"...

Don't get me wrong, anything that gets us moving is great...

But when did this become a thing?...

There was a film from the 80s, "back to the future", in I think the third one, where in one of the scenes the time traveller is talking to cowboys in a bar in the Wild West era...

They are asking him with suspicion, with all the easy travel options he describes in the future, does anyone have to run anymore..

He replies "only for sport or recreation"...

They snigger thinking he's had one too many...

But not so long ago, in a normal day we would easily have covered 10,000 steps...

And walking is a great and natural form of exercise...

But for losing we still need to do exercise under some load to maintain or even quicken our metabolism...

Plus we are designed to move in so many different directions...

But simple walking will keep joints from stiffening and seizing and the heart relatively healthy...

The in person personalised exercise routines I conduct or the video exercise sessions designed for Busy business people, although can't be measured are worth many/many steps in one go, even a just over 20 minute session...

It's just a shame it's all come to this, but how ever you do it, certain number of steps, a quick exercise session to balance it all out...

Just do your best to fit it in...

Ed ( someone who joined in building his new house said he was doing easily 30,000 steps per day, maybe I should try that and report back, I reckon the answer would be- I'm incredibly healthy, but looking for somewhere to live since the house fell down) Stride.

Don't rely on TV to tell you how to lose weight...

As I got home back to the family last night, I caught one of those "diet" programmes (10 year old was already watching it)...

All these totally different plans; ready made meals, shakes, juices, no carbs...

If you are doing one already and you feel like it fits, like it was made for you, you could do it easily for the long term, then this is the only reason to stick with it...

But when all had been said and done, the different subjects had tried different ones, measuring how much weight they lost and how much it cost them per Lb a terrible and misleading way of testing IMHO...

The presenter announced in closing "remember the best way is to have a balance diet and be more active"...

If only he said that at the beginning, everyone could have spent 59.5 minutes doing something else!...

These things have a ending after a few weeks - what happens then?...

And if quick weight loss insures it's a recipe for gaining it back and more, again which is fine if the goal is to lose for a one time event, then fair enough...

But what if you want to be in control for the long term? Be able to wear the clothes you want to wear long term not short term? Be proud of holiday pictures? Your healthy lifestyle could mean you could even be around to see your great grandchildren!...

But it won't come from anything "faddy" ,balanced, blood sugar stabilising and doing the right exercise for the right people is here to stay...

The right exercise is always overlooked- preserving muscle...

The muscle that you have now is the stuff that keeps your metabolism stay at the big number it is, the higher the number the harder it is to over consume...

But to keep it, which is hard if you are trying to lose by even doing it the right way, you have to use it...

And use it in a way that also caters for the fact a Mums body has gone through the strains of pregnancy and or a Busy Professional sitting in cars on school runs and other journeys and possibly hunched over a computer...

Or if you just need a system to follow on your own to go that bit further then there's the 12 week programme, again let me know if you need more info...

It's time to get the results you want.

You can do this.

How many things have you tried to lose weight?

The summer holidays are about to end...

If you have been a frustrated busy mum or busy professional looking to get back to losing and shaping, it's almost time...

Do you have a specific plan to get results?...

Or are you just resolving that this time you are just going to be better at being consistent and giving in to less temptations?...

I'm sure you have tried many things in the past and maybe some worked for the short term...

In the weight loss industry there are many groups preying on those whose inability to lose make them feel sad, frustrated, lost and or stressed and who are looking for an easy solution...

So they make bold claims to draw you in such as: "eat as much as you like, lose weight", "a flat stomach in just 1 minute" and even "control insulin levels, decrease blood sugar, speed metabolism, lower bad cholesterol, burn body fat and suppress appetite"...

The last one sounds good and if they were talking about a complete lifestyle solution then great but it's actually just a cinnamon supplement...

Results like that don't come from doing one thing...

It's a lifestyle thing and ultimately it has to fit in with you...

Some preparation may be involved, but I'm never going to tell a busy person to batch cook for the week and place your five meals for the day in neat little tuper wares...

You would quite rightly tell me where to go!

My specific advice for someone who is as busy as you is focus on portion size and use your hands to measure (previous mail)

Look at what you are eating and drinking now and think how could I could I take the next baby step to making it better...

The research that's happening with stabilising blood sugar we knew about how important it is for diabetes control and prevention, new research is linking it to Alzheimer's too, more proof of health benefits...

The problem is there is too much "Weight Loss fluff"...

To be transparent yes I am in this industry to provide for my family, but I will always seek for anyone I help to get them the result they desire...

It's why my products and services have money back guarantees, that cinnamon advert drew me in to be honest and I looked but they didn't guarantee anything.

You know what to do and if you need help, just ask in the comments and I will reply!

You can do this.

Ed (I think I know why the cinnamon company didn't employ me for their marketing - how about "Cinnamon Supplement, it is healthier than sugar, but won't change your life dramatically on its own, but will taste nice if you have a sweet tooth and like cinnamon" -fluff free!) Stride.
