Weight Loss Success, have you got one of these buttons?

Even if we follow a healthy lifestyle as much as the time as we can...

Eating healthy...

Keeping active...

There are some times we let our guard down and our lifestyle changes a bit...

On holiday...

The christmas period...

Birthdays...

Weekends...

If this is occasional and the rest of your lifestyle habits are good, you can usually return back to good shape and health, quite quickly...

However if you have lots of holidays per year or indulge quite heavily each weekend, that is going to make things somewhat harder...

My weekends are a time for me to relax my nutrition habits a little, although with a family holiday coming up I might have to be a bit more careful...

Although motivation wise I will be mostly playing sport with the little ones and getting time to read a few books, rather than strutting around the pool like some demented Peacock...

Indulgences are pretty inevitable, what is important is how quickly after a week end or a holiday, you can press the reset button...

Wether you know the event is coming or wether you have an unplanned indulgence...

In terms of your lifestyle goals, its about what you do next...

Sure, if its unplanned you can feel like you are going backwards, that it seems out of your control...

But its best not to dwell on it, you can't go back and undo things...

But what is in your control is that you certainly can make a concerted effort to reset and get into habits more aligned with getting the results you desire...

So as we head into the weekend if you plan to relax your nutrition some what or you get, what shall we call it - lead astray...

It becomes so important to get back to good habits as soon as you can...

Part of your success is your resilience.

You can do this.

Ed (Apparently nine out of ten people will be having some kind of food or drink indulgence this week end and the tenth is just hoping no one finds out) Stride.

An important weight loss question...

For most of us we share a common goal, to be leaner (lose and shape up) and we care about our health...

We want that great feeling that comes with feeling good about ourselves...

Our health issues are minimal, any medication taken is for minor and short term reasons...

So if that is the objective you have in mind...

I have a question, what are you willing to do?

Depending on that objective it may be easier or harder than you may think...

If you want to be super lean and you have normal genetics, then there is quite a bit to it...

Being very strict on your nutrition plan (weighing and measuring) and doing quite challenging exercise sessions quite a few times a week (maybe even twice a day)...

Maybe that was me before, now I'm left asking "who has time for this?"...

So if that is your goal then be realistic about what is involved...

For must of us our goals are a little bit more modest...

With this in mind, your lose and shape up and health goals are actually a lot more attainable than you think they are...

I can give you a numerous list of lifestyle habits to implement, but I don't know your readiness to do them at this point in time...

So my question again is: what are you willing to do now?

No matter how big or small...

Start with that and see where it takes you...

You can do this...

Ed ( actually I asked someone this and was not ready for the answer, they told me they were going to go to a different fast food chain from now on, I pointed out that the food there was no healthier than any of the others, this was agreed but the real reason was "none of these places have a drive through so you have to get out the car and walk in to get your food, burns more calories" can't argue with that logic) Stride.

How much fuel does your journey require?

I may have written about it before?🙂
How much energy we consume and how much we expend is important to health and weight loss...

So our energy consumption should be relative to expenditure, as in how physically active we are...

The old advice of most of what you consume can be carbohydrates (our bodies primary fuel source) didn't work as nowadays most of us don't have the requirements for so much energy...

A bit like a car, if we are not constantly going on long drives we don't need the fuel...

In a car, unused fuel sits in the tank ready to be used...

In the body, it has a couple of initial places (muscle and liver) and then over flow storage (accumulative body fat)...

That's why the advice has changed and moderating foods that contain simple to use energy is the key...

There some times the body needs fuel, after reasonably challenging exercise for example, the energy/ blood sugar level will be low and the body will need a bit of refuelling and regeneration...

But if your day involves busy but sedentary activity that's why it's important to moderate energy foods for health and to look and feel how you want to.

Any questions? Let me know in the comments section...

Thanks,
Ed.

Weight Loss Checklist.

Health and Weight Loss Nutrition is all about balancing and therefore stabilising blood sugar.

Obviously there are foods (and drinks) that have to be eaten and consumed in moderation for any kind of weight loss result.

Also for most of us (non athletes) this means decreasing high energy carbohydrates like bread, pasta, rice, potato and sugary breakfast cereals and eating more vegetables (low energy carbs) and sources of lean protein or vegetarian protein such as Lentils or Quinoa.

I can't believe anyone I help, doesn't have at least something for breakfast (it's a huge metabolism kick starter!)
If you aren't, start as soon as you can!
If you are, try and have less high energy carbs and more protein.

Drink more water, sip throughout the day. It Indirectly effects metabolism, every function in the body speeds up, so the body burns more calories. Your skin will look better too.

Snacking! Snacking is good! It's what you snack on that counts. Again go natural low high energy carb, higher protein. This decreases the chance of blood sugar dips that slow metabolism over time. Also increases metabolism.

Weight Loss: Less Isn't Better...

When we are adjusting our nutrition habits to lose weight, we always tend to think eating less and low amounts of foods is the best way forward.
To some degree it is, but the idea shouldn't be to cut calories drastically, unless you are having huge portions of junk food at every meal!
Drastically lowering calories, tells the body to prepare for food scarcity, it does this by conserving energy, we lose weight quickly, but from water, muscle and fat, decreasing our metabolism and increasing our fat storing potential when the lowering of calories stops.
For a long term healthy weight loss plan, if you eat moderate balanced portions, with healthy natural food, you will find not only will you be processing and not storing the nutrients, but in actual fact you will be consuming less calories overall by eating more natural food in smaller portions. Eating often especially gives the body the impression food is in abundance, so if it feels it needs to draw on extra energy reserves it can use it's own fat stores, meaning steady long term healthy weight loss which is from fat loss, raised metabolism and numerous other benefits!
